Patricia Arquette Visits Blue Hibiscus
Continuing her commitment to affordable housing advocacy, WHCHC’s 35th Anniversary Gala Honoree, Patricia Arquette, recently visited Blue Hibiscus in West Hollywood. Led by WHCHC Board Member, Barrie Gruner, Patricia toured the building, met with a resident and discussed the state of affordable housing and its current challenges. We were honored to present the Advocate Award to such an esteemed and renowned activist, actress and supporter!
Enriching Lives Through Nature
'A walk in the park' is more than just a saying. It turns out that walking (especially in nature) can offer positive health benefits, both mentally and physically. In the spirit of health, learning and community, families from Vermont Manzanita in Los Angeles enjoyed an afternoon nature walk with the Wildwoods Foundation. The intergenerational group learned about insects, plants, birds and how to use a compass. Wildwoods has been providing outdoor environmental literacy programs to Los Angeles students for over 20 years. More excursions are in the works.
Bonding over Breakfast
Nothing starts your day off better than a hearty breakfast, especially when someone else is cooking. Residents at The Courtyard at La Brea in West Hollywood enjoy a monthly community breakfast, made with love from their Resident Services Coordinator, Eric. As shown below, residents like Angelo have the opportunity to sit down, connect with their RSC and receive updates on supportive resources. Eggs, croissant, sausage and coffee with a side of services? Yes please!
Meet Resident Rochelle
"Berendo Sage is a life saver for me!" Rochelle exclaimed with a big smile. After spending too much time in a shelter, Rochelle said, "I wake up happy and kiss my apartment every day!" As residents adjust to their new lives at Berendo Sage in Los Angeles, Rochelle has quickly taken a leadership role as both a cheerleader and supporter to other residents. In the future Rochelle wants to be a counselor for people who experienced homelessness. "This was a blessing to me and I want to be a blessing to this place," she said smiling ear to ear. Read more about residents like Rochelle here.
Be a Part of the Solution
“I finally have peace of mind. After 18 years as a behavioral therapist within LAUSD, I didn’t think my daughter and I would ever be displaced. We spent years staying with friends, family and sometimes hotels, nearly depleting my 401(k). Now we are home.” You can have direct positive impact on WHCHC residents, like Pamela shown here with LA Mayor Karen Bass, with your donation. Help keep residents housed and thriving.
