WHCHC is delighted to announce our recently added board members.
Rémy De La Peza is the Founder/Principal of Morena Strategies and has over a decade of experience as an attorney working on issues of land use, affordable housing, equitable community development, and gentrification.
Allison Higgins is Senior Vice President at George Smith Partners and brings a wealth of experience in capital markets, real estate development, and commercial real estate finance.
Ed Waddell brings a background in architectural drafting, retail visual merchandising, and residential home improvements. He's also been a community volunteer and group facilitator at local non-profits.
Cristina Zuniga has over a decade of experience working with under-served communities. As Partnership Manager for Magnolia Community Initiative, Cristina has developed innovative programs and coordinated vital support services for low-income families with children.
WHCHC is thrilled about our recent staff changes and additions.
Matt Mason was promoted to Director of Real Estate Development in September 2018. Matt has been in urban planning and economic development on both coasts for over a decade and has been a project manager for affordable housing developments here in Los Angeles.
Sam Borelli became our first Director of External Affairs in January. Previously, Sam was an independent public affairs consultant and fundraiser working in the healthcare, hospitality, and entertainment industries, as well with national non-profits and local governments.
Rachel B. Peled joined WHCHC this year as Assistant Project Manager. Prior to joining WHCHC, Rachel worked for the Town of Los Gatos Community Development Department as Assistant Planner and served as Project Advocate Officer for the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Jose.
After debuting our latest apartment community, Blue Hibiscus, back in November, WHCHC is hard at work with multiple projects that further our mission of building homes and providing services that move community members from instability to security.
Rampart Mint is the new construction of 23 units of permanent supportive housing for homeless and chronically homeless individuals with special needs. Co-developed with Affordable Living for the Aging (ALA), Rampart Mint is located in the Westlake/Rampart Village neighborhood in Los Angeles and is expected to open in the spring of 2020.
Westmore Linden is the new construction of 93 units of affordable housing for low- and very low-income seniors, with 15 units reserved as permanent supportive housing for homeless seniors. Located in the Koreatown/Pico-Union neighborhood of Los Angeles, Westmore Linden is scheduled to open in January 2020.
Elden Elms, Westmore Linden's neighbor, is prepped to break ground in March and includes 93 units for families making 15-60% of the area median income. There will be a mix of one, two, and three‐bedroom apartments, with 15 of the one‐bedroom units reserved for formerly‐homeless frequent users of the LA County Health System. Elden Elms is scheduled for completion in 2021.

How You Can Help
At the age of 19, AJ became homeless after fleeing an unsafe living environment. For over three years, she was completely alone and without any family support. AJ was forced to endure the trauma of shelter living until last year, when she was given the keys to her own WHCHC apartment.
With your support, innovative resident services programs allow vulnerable community members like AJ to get housed, stay housed, and thrive in a new environment.
WHCHC integrates resident services with affordable housing because low-income and other high risk individuals, such as the formerly homeless, face special challenges to maintain their housing. WHCHC facilitates the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of its residents through individualized service plans, lifelong learning workshops, and linking residents to resources such as physical and mental health, transportation, food, benefits, rental assistance, and other supportive services.
