What is West Hollywood Community Housing Corporation?

WHCHC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affordable housing development corporation founded in 1986. We build both new apartment buildings and have renovated older ones that provide housing to lower-and-fixed-income people using environmentally sustainable materials, systems and appliances that protect the environment. WHCHC has developed 18 apartment communities, 14 in the City of West Hollywood, one in the City of Glendale and one in Los Angeles.  We maintain a development pipeline of 2 to 3 projects in predevelopment and construction. Please take a look at our project gallery to find out more about our apartment communities.

Community Impacts

WHCHC’s apartment communities range in size from 8 units to 93 units.  Technically referred to as ‘urban infill’, each new building replaced one that had fallen into disrepair and had to be demolished.  Each building is unique, designed to seamlessly fit within the community. Our buildings are environmentally sensitive and architecturally distinguished in order to reflect and complement their surrounding neighborhoods. After buildings are completed, we maintain a high standard of asset management and take pride in the way our developments enhance the neighborhoods in which they are built.

Our Residents

The impacts on the lives of people who live in affordable housing is remarkable.  Many of our residents have one or more disability, have low and fixed incomes, and often have been struggling for many years.  Once they receive the keys to their new WHCHC apartment, a sense of relief and a feeling of safety helps them to stabilize their lives.

Our residents include people with disabilities, seniors, people with HIV/AIDS, transition age youth, and formerly homeless. As we develop additional housing we are targeting units to individuals and households which are either formerly homeless or at risk for homelessness.

Because many of our residents are elderly and/or disabled, they need a variety of services to enable them to live independently. Our Resident Services staff works with our on site property managers to provide assistance to residents and their families, and to make referrals to outside health and social service agencies. The goal of the program is to protect our residents’ tenancies and provide the best quality of life possible. Please explore our web site to learn more about what we do, and how you can help.
